When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No, I won’t be afraid
Oh, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me — “
Stand By Me” , Ben E. King

There is a warm picturesque image we construct from the possibilities of a “ new day”. We celebrate the dawning of new ideas , relationships and growth . Daytime metaphorically speaks of tranquility , prosperity and stability . We love the daytime . We plan our lives on the premise that all of our success will happen when it is “daytime” season in our lives . Daytime is when we tend to imagine the world through the framework of hope and not fear .

There is another time that Thomas Paine suggest , “try men’s souls” . That time is nighttime . Nighttime is categorized my failure , pain and sadness . We seldom hear of folks proclaiming that they are excited for their nighttime season . You may be reading this article and find yourself in a nighttime situation. Your goals and dreams have been deferred , your challenges seem perpetual and the fear you are experiencing is paralyzing . Before you decide to quit , I want to remind you of a simple truth with sophisticated implications . That truth is that even in the nighttime there is the presence of light .

The moon is not as bright as the sun but it still radiates light . Practically speaking , you may be going through a dark time in your life but if you look around, you can find sources of light. I argue that the nighttime helps us become more attuned to the light in that it forces us to appreciated even the slightest glimpse of a better and brighter future . Even if the moon is the only light you see , it is light, and for that we lift our hearts and heads in anticipation of a more radiant tomorrow .
