3 ½ Community Building Resources You Need To Know About
Yesterday was a moment ! Millions of Americans paused from their chaotic schedule to incline their hearts and minds to the reading of the verdict in the case of the State of Minnesota v Derek Chauvin. Mr.Chauvin ( who is now convicted of murder and manslaughter ) , is the officer who knelt on the neck of George Floyd for nearly ten minutes . After watching the reading of the verdict on my phone , I posted the following message on one of my social media platforms ;
Community building is my response to trauma and tragedy because it provides companionship , collective vision and tools for change . When I reflect on the various communities I have been a part of , I instantly think of the African proverb , “ If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together .” The quote provides a hopeful testament to the power of community . Many times we lack the language and tools for creating and sustaining healthy communities , thus the actualization of the communities we envisions is subpar or nonexistent. I want to share 3 ½ resources that you can use to create and/or cultivate the communities you are or want to be a part of .
